Getting Started
Improved Coupon adds to Magento's cart price rules what shoppers and marketers usually miss in them:
- Auto-apply a coupon to every cart that qualifies, with no code to type.
- Show the coupons a cart can use right now, with an Apply button.
- Apply a coupon with a link, and build the link and a QR code in the admin (Coupon Link Builder).
- Offer each customer a personal coupon from a pool of mass-generated coupons.
- Let customers use several coupons in one cart, in the cart, the checkout and the admin order.
- Show "almost there" hints ("Add $20 worth more products, to get 10% off").
- See which coupons bring orders in a usage report.
Nothing changes in how Magento calculates discounts: Improved Coupon works with the cart price rules you already have.
Before you start
- Improved Coupon needs the ApBase module, version 1.6.57 or newer (it is included in the package).
- The switches below work with a cart price rule that has one specific coupon code (Coupon: Specific Coupon, without Use Auto Generation). Rules without a coupon, and rules with generated codes, are not affected (the only exception is the personal coupon from a pool).
- Supported: Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce 2.4.7, 2.4.8 and 2.4.9, the Luma theme and the Hyvä theme (1.3, 1.4, 1.5).
Installation
Back up your store before you install.
If you install from the Adobe Commerce Marketplace with Composer (the ApBase module is installed with it):
composer require mexbs/better-coupon
bin/magento module:enable Mexbs_ApBase Mexbs_BetterCoupon
bin/magento setup:upgrade
bin/magento cache:flush
If you install from the zip file:
- Unpack
Mexbs_BetterCoupon_v1.0.0.zipand copy the content of itsextension_filesfolder into your Magento root directory (the files go toapp/code/Mexbs). - Run:
bin/magento module:enable Mexbs_ApBase Mexbs_BetterCoupon
bin/magento setup:upgrade
bin/magento cache:flush
On a Hyvä store, also enable the Hyvä module (bin/magento module:enable Mexbs_BetterCouponHyva) before setup:upgrade, and see the Hyvä theme.
In production mode, run bin/magento setup:di:compile and bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy -f as well.
Where the settings are
Almost everything is set on the cart price rule: Marketing > Cart Price Rules, in the Rule Information section. The new fields are:

The number of coupons a cart may have is in Stores > Configuration > Sales > Sales > Improved Coupon (see Several coupons).
Combining rules
Coupons follow Magento's usual rules, so before you switch on several of them, keep two things in mind:
- The priority of a rule decides which one is processed first (a lower number goes first).
- Discard subsequent rules stops the rules after it. It is set to Yes by default in rules created in the Magento admin, so check it when two coupons do not combine. See Coupons that cannot be combined.
