Apply a Coupon with a Link

A link that applies a coupon and takes the customer to a page of your store: good for emails, social posts, banners and printed QR codes.

Setting it up

  1. On the cart price rule (with one specific coupon code), switch on Allow applying by link.
  2. Use this link: https://your-store.com/applycoupon/link?code=COUPONCODE

You do not have to write the link yourself: the Coupon Link Builder makes it, and a QR code.

ParameterWhat it does
codeThe coupon code (required)
toThe page the customer lands on, for example &to=/women.html. It must be a page of your store. Without it the customer lands on the cart.
utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_contentCampaign parameters. They are kept on the page the customer lands on, so your analytics shows where the visit came from.

How it behaves

  • If the cart qualifies, the coupon is applied right away.
  • If the cart is empty or does not qualify yet, the code is saved and applied as soon as the cart qualifies. It replaces a coupon the customer typed in the meantime (when only one coupon is allowed per cart).
  • Product to add with the link (optional): fill Product SKU to add with the link and Quantity of the product on the rule. The product is added to the cart when the link is used. It must be a simple product (a product without options). The link itself cannot name a product, so nobody can build a link that puts other products in a cart.
  • A link with an unknown code, a rule without the switch, or a customer group the visitor is not in, all show the same message: "This coupon link is not valid."
